About Emma Thomas
I have always had a passion for working with children and have been for many years. I have worked with children, adolescents and individuals between the ages of three to twenty-five, in a variety of fields; tutoring, au-pairing, and teaching along my journey to becoming an Educational Psychologist. Currently, I am a practicing Educational Psychologist at Delta Park Remedial School and run a Private Practice in the afternoons. I strive as a professional to provide a warm and supportive environment to help individuals grow, develop, and reach their full potential. I believe given the right tools, support and environment that they can grow, develop, and reach their full potential.
My Approach
The therapeutic approach that underlies my practice is Client-Centered. I believe that in order for the therapeutic process to help a person grow and reach their full potential, they need to be actively involved in the process. In combination with this approach I also enjoy using, Cognitive and Behaviour Therapies, Psychodynamic, Positive Psychology and Mindfulness Techniques to understand and assist clients. The techniques used in therapy focus on symptom reduction, enhanced social relationships and psychoeducation. My focus in therapy generally covers behaviours, thoughts, emotions, and relationships for a holistic treatment plan.
What Clients I Work With
I have experience working with a diverse range of clients across the lifespan, though my current primary focus is often on children and adolescents. I work with learners who experience academic, emotional, behavioural, or social difficulties that may affect their performance and well-being in the school environment. This includes children with learning barriers such as Specific Learning Disorders, ASD, ADHD, Developmental Delays, or Intellectual Disabilities, as well as those dealing with anxiety, trauma, or adjustment and transition challenges.
In addition to working directly with children, I often collaborate with parents, teachers, schools, and other professionals to ensure holistic support. I provide assessments, therapeutic interventions, career guidance, school-readiness evaluations, workshops and learning support to help children and adolescents reach their full potential.
Currently I don’t work with adults experiencing learning barriers or needing career support. If this is something you are looking for specifically, please reach out to my colleagues Katlego Mlambo or Calynn Walker directly.
